Introduction
Much of the Tourist Attraction of Tamil Nadu stems from its rich culture and heritage, both of which are influenced by the history of Tamil Nadu which dates back to times immemorial. Evidences of this history can be found scattered all around the state of Tamil Nadu, where, carefully preserved, these take us back to an era which remains even today, unaffected by the passage of time. Notable among these is the Thanjavur Palace Tanjore, a relic of the historical heritage of Tamil Nadu.
Built by the Nayak Dynasty in 1550, the Thanjavur Palace Tanjore also bears a strong influence of the Marathas who had always enjoyed a political prominence in Tanjore. Once, the capital of the Chola Kings, Tanjore has also been largely influenced by them, an influence, which can be observed, even today in the architectural styles of the Thanjavur Palace Tanjore.
The Palace today houses a Royal Museum where one can see the various artifacts of the rulers of Tanjore which have been preserved even today with great care. Royal clothing, headgear and hunting weapons can transport the tourist to Tanjore to an era that defined the principles of chivalry and royal living.
