“I’ll love you dear, I’ll love you Till China and Africa meet, And the river jumps over the mountain
And the salmon sing in the street.”
So said W.H Auden in his famous poem, Wystan Hugh. If you wish to witness the splendor of the Pench River then the watchtower at this place is the perfect place.
The park authorities of the Pench National Park have built a watchtower in the jungle. This watchtower is also known as the Raiyakassa.
The Pench River is clearly visible from the cemented tower of this Watchtower. The Park Authorities also enables the visitors with the permission to stay at night inside the watchtower.
But for that permission is required. The wild animals in the jungles are very intelligent and once you go inside the jungles you shall be enamored by the beauty of the iridescent river. Generally the animals come here in order to drink water during the summer nights.
From the watch tower you can reluctantly watch the river and the elegant animal stealthily creeping in the dark of night towards the river in order to drink water from the river. Pench National Park has been designed to provide maximum protection to the Royal Bengal Tigers which are considered as the heritage of the Indian subcontinent.
The animals are beautiful and rare. They can be the most useful to the common man; they are said to have a medicinal effect. So, the kings and warriors in ancient times captured them. Due to these indiscriminate attacks on the tigers by the poachers the number of the rare and exquisite animals decreased enormously.
At the end however the Government decided to protect these animals from herm in the hands of the poachers, so National Parks and Sanctuaries have been constructed and these wild animals are now free from further encroachment.
