Orchha Fort Complex has three palaces set in an open quad, and the complex is neared by a multi-arched bridge. The three palaces in the fort complex are:
Jahangir Mahal: The Jahangir Mahal was constructed by Raja Bir Singh Ju Deo in the 16th Century to memorialize the visit of Mughal Emperor Jahangir to Orchha. The strong lines of the palace are counterpoised by delicate chhatries and lattice work. The whole look conveys an effect of extra ordinary richness.
Raj Mahal:
The predecessor of Raja Bir Singh Ju Deo, Madhukar Shah, who was deeply pious, constructed Raj Mahal in the 17th Century. The Raj Mahal stands on the right side of the quadrangle of the fort complex. The exteriors of the Mahal are plain and are crowned by chhatries, which leads into the interiors with exquisite wall paintings, daringly colorful on a variety of religious themes.
Rai Parveen Mahal:
Rai Parveen Mahal was built in memory of the famous poetess and musician, Rai Parveen, the beautiful courtesan of Raja Indramani. Mughal Emperor Akbar was mesmerized by her beauty and on his orders she was sent to Delhi. But the emperor was highly impressed to see her pure and intense love for Indramani and she was sent back to Orchha. The palace is a low-height, two-storeyed brick-built structure, surrounded with many trees and landscaped gardens, octangular flower beds and extensive water supply system. The Rai Parveen Mahal also has a mini hall and small chambers.
