Kanha, a popular tourist destination in Madhya Pradesh is a land with many natural and architectural beauties. The name Kanha is derived from kanhar which in the local language means the clayey soil. The local belief is that there was once a holy man who lived in the forest village. His name, Kanva is from where Kanha had got its name.
Kanha is well known for the wildlife reserve which houses many different species of animals. The wildlife park is spread over 1945 square kilometers. It was in 1955 that the Kanha National Park came into existence. It was here that Rudyard Kipling wrote The Jungle Book.
