History
History of the Fort of Dhar states that this fort in Dhar was supposedly built by Sultan Muhammed Bin Tughluk of Delhi, around 14th century. Dhar was an important force of resistance during the revolt of 1857. During this time, the fort of Dhar was captured by the nationalist forces which remained in their possession from July to October. However the British recaptured the Fort of Dhar and started a gruesome revenge campaign against the people of Dhar.
Description
The Fort of Dhar looks like a prominent mound of red sand stone from a distance. The palace of the Raja was enclosed inside the fort of Dhar. The architecture of the Dhar Fort reflects an unique blend of Hindu, Muslim and Afghan styles. It has been well preserved till date and gives the tourist a chance to explore his unique monument.

Dhar is about 33 km from Maheshwar, 35 km from Mandu. Indore is at a distance of 64 km from Dhar. All these are the principal towns of Madhya Pradesh that are well linked to different parts of India through rail and road ways. Buses are available from these places to Dhar at regular intervals.
