Introduction
A dense forested area on the Mandakini river bank is the Sphatik Shila. The Sanskrit word 'Sphatik' means Crystal. This is actually a huge rock boulder that is located about a km away from the Janaki-Kund, on the left banks of Mandakini River
History
History of Sphatik Shila states that this was the resting place of Ram and Janaki on the way to and from the Atri Ashram. Once Jayant, the son of Indra in the form of a crow pecked at Sita to test the might of Ram.Later he took shelter with the lord himself who took one of his eyes as a punishment. The Spahtik Shila still bears the footprint of Shri Ram, Sita and Jayant.
