About Sikkim
The smallest state of India in terms of population and second smallest in area after Goa, Sikkim is the shrine of Mt. Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world. The northern, eastern and western borders of Sikkim are bounded in a semi-circle by the picturesque Himalayan ranges. Various holy places like Monasteries, Temples, Churches, Mosques, Four Great Caves, etc call for special attraction in Sikkim.
The Festival
One of the oldest festivals of the Lepchas, Tendong Lho Rum Faat is the worship of Mount Tendong. According to legend, this hill rose like a horn during a great flood and protected the Lepchas from annihilation. According to Dungkit Karchu, Tendong Lho Rum Faat falls on Purveem Lovo, the seventh month of the Lepcha calendar, corresponding to the month of August. Specifically, it is on the 8th of August every year when Tendong Lho Rum Faat is celebrated. While the Lepcha Bongthings or priests worship Mount Tendong in South Sikkim on the occasion of Tendong Lho Rum Faat, the Lepchas in Gangtok take part in day long cultural and literary program wearing their orthodox garments.
