Introduction
One of the auspicious Tibetan Festivals is Lhabab Dhuechein which commemorates the life of Buddha and the four stages of his life. Among the fairs and festivals of Sikkim, the Lhabab Dhuechein is a religious festival observed by the people of Sikkim.
It is a Buddhist Festival which is celebrated throughout Sikkim to observe the descent of Buddha from heaven back to earth. Lord Buddha was born in Nepal in Lumbini as a prince and lived a royal lifestyle. But after a few years he realized that this materialistic life does not attract him at all and he shunned the royal lifestyle and went for the search of Enlightenment. At the age of 35, Buddha attained Enlightenment in Sarnath. Buddha finally attained Nirvana.
Buddha had left for heaven at the age of 41 but he was exhorted by his follower Maugalyayana to return. After a long discussion he returned to the earth by a special triple ladder made by Vishwakarma.
Lhabab Dhuechein is a festival that commemorates Buddha's return from heaven. The festival is held during the month of November.
The Lhabab Dhuechein in Sikkim is an important festival and tourists from all over the world visit Sikkim to be a part of this holy festival.
