Jagannath Rath Yatra in Orissa is grandly celebrated in the month of June and July. Jagannath Rath Yatra is observed in Puri when the lords are taken out on a pomp procession in a chariot that is witnessed by lakhs of devotees from across the world. Lord Jagannath, his brother and sister are taken to Gundecha Ghar, for five days on a visit to their aunt after which they are brought back to Jagannath temple through a procession known as Ultarath.
The most famous fair and festival in Orissa, this yatra reflects a measure to bring the god on this earth. According to legends, it also stands for Lord Krishna's departure to Mathura from Gokul.
Features:
Lord Krishna, his brother Balaram and sister Subadhra begin their journey from Jagdish temple in Jamalpur which are followed by decked elephants and pilgrims
The chariot of Lord Jagannath- 'Nandighose' with 18 wheels, Taladwaja of Balabhadra with 16 wheels and Deviratha , that of Subhadra with 14 wheels, are manufactured every year following rigid rituals and ceremonies.
Before the deities are boarded on the respective yellow coloured Nandighosa, blue coloured Taladwaja and Deviratha - the chariots, the king of Puri sweeps the chariots with golden broom.
After that, thousands of devotees pull the chariots to Gundicha Ghar.
After staying in Gundicha Ghar for seven days, the deities are brought back to their abode.

Take a bus to Puri from Bhubaneswar, Calcutta, Raipur, Tatanagar, Ranchi, Visakhapatnam and Durgapur.
Puri is an important railway station on South-Eastern Railway, which can be easily reached from major cities
