Carved out of the Naga Hills - Tuesnsang Area, Nagaland is dominated by the Naga communities. The Festival
One of the most joyous festivals of the Pochury tribe of Nagaland, the Nazu festival is celebrated for 10 days in the month of February before the sowing of seeds for the year. It is more of entertainment than rituals, as extravagant songs and dances are performed by the Pochury tribe on this occasion to mark the celebration of this festival. Among the dance recitals, Khupielilie, performed by the women folk of this tribe, is quite popular.
The attire of the dancers includes Ascunyi (ribbon like head-gear), Kiileniinyi (long mekhala worn from the chest down to the calf), Achulhre (necklace-like ornament worn round the waist over the Killeniinyi), Akhi (armlet), Akhusa (bangle for forearm) and attractive necklaces called Asker. This dance is eminent for the harmonious movements of hands and legs along with the songs of diverse tunes and beats.
