The city of Junagadh during the month of February comes to life with the colorful Bhavnath Fair. An ancient site of Jain heritage, situated at the foot of the Mount Girnar, is The Bhavnath Mahadev Temple, devoted to the three eyed deity Lord Shiva.
The grand event takes place on Mahashivaratri for five days during the month of February and is thronged by devotees from all over the country. The temple is considered to be a very sacred one, since it is believed that Lord Shiva visits the temple Himself accompanied by nine Nathas and eighty four Siddhas on that auspicious day.

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this temple is an ancient masterpiece, the Mahapuja takes place at midnight on the 14th day of the dark half of the calendar month of magh.
The temple is visited by Naga Bavas (naked sages) once the puja is in full swing. They come with great pomp and show, seated on elephants and blowing conch shells.
Free meal is served to all by the organizers. Vendors from Mathura and Ayodha flock to the place during this time and set up stalls of miscellaneous gifts.
The fair is a symbol of the cultural life of Gujarat. Kirtans, Bhajans, Garba and Bhavai folk theatre make the fair more attractive and colorful.
When to Visit
Junagadh usually enjoys a mild temperature, so the place is ideal to visit throughout the year. However the best time will be during the winter season. The Bhavnath Fair takes place in February.
