The village of Ambaji is blessed with the grace of the goddess Mata Amba or Ambica and is considered to be one of the 12 original Shakti Pithas, or shrines dedicated to her divine power. On every year, on the full moon day this day is celebrated on a large scale as devotees from all over the country flock to the place to offer their prayers.
However the Bhadrapadi Purnima is considered to be the most auspicious day among four others and the main festival is celebrated on this day with great grandeur. A big fair is organized at the village of Ambaji to mark the celebrations in respect of the Mata, and hence is known as the Ambaji Bhadra Purnima Fair.
