This festival of merriment derives its name from the Sanskrit word, Vishuvam when day and night become equal as the sun causes vernal equinox.

• Bihu Dances are performed with Dionysian spirit and sexually implicit movements to symbolize fertility of Mother Earth, ensuring bounty in the next year's harvest.
