Features of Rajini Gabra and Harni Gabra in Assam

• Unlike in other tribal festivals, Rajini Gabra is performed during daytime.
• On the day of worship, the 'Kunang' or the village headman takes the responsibility of appeasing and worshipping the individual deity of the family during Rajini Gabra by closing the village gate on the worship date.
• After the propitiation, a function called 'Harni Gabra' is executed during which the main deity is propitiated to ensure that safety and well-being of the people.
• Dimasa tribe believes that during the festival, the main gate of the village should remain closed to ward off enry of any outsider. Thus during both the Rajini Gabra and Hami Gabra , the gates to the village, remain closed.
• However, even then if some outsider manage to enter the village, the celebrations lose their significance and the guilty is forced to offer the entire cost of performing the celebrations all over again.
