Bohaggiyo Bishu in Assam is a festival celebrated by one of the numerous tribes in the state. This festival reflects the pagan belief and customs of Deori tribe. Deoris of Assam in India is one of the four sub-clans of the Chutiyas, who are known to have delineated from the Boro race.
Bishu derives its name from the same word in Chutiya language. While 'Bi' means extreme, 'Su' means 'rejoicing'. Thus Bohaggiyo Bishu refers to one of the fairs and festivals in Assam, which intensely celebrates the mood of spring, youth, vitality and freshness. This festival continues for a week in April and induces the mood of merriment, frolic and unlimited ecstasy.
