Features:
Bhajans and Kirtans are sung in praise of Lord Krishna. The Lord in His infant form is worshipped in very household. All the houses are beautifully decorated with lights and flowers.
Raas leelas and events from Krishna's childhood life are enacted accompanied by songs and music.
Devotees keep long fast till midnight. Special dishes are prepared to treat the Lord with love and then are taken by the devotees.
Alms are distributed and every needy is given food and gifts. A strict vegetarian diet is followed.
Season
The best time to visit Andaman and Nicobar islands is during the months of July-august. It is during this time that the island celebrates the Janmashtami festival with great pomp and show.
How to Reach
By Air -
There are five weekly flights between Calcutta and Port Blair and four between Vishakapatnam and Chennai connect the islands to the mainland.
By Sea -
The Shipping Corporation of India runs services between Haddo Jetty, Port Blair in the Andaman's and Calcutta and Chennai on the mainland. Three to four ships are present to set sail. A single one is available from Vishakapatnam every two months.
Buses, auto rickshaws and taxis are made available by the Directorate of shipping Services to cater to the requirements of inter-island movers.
